MGMS Lapidary School

MGMS Lapidary School is now located at 176 Tazan Ave., Florence, MS. For driving directions please see map on the Meetings Page. MGMS Lapidary School is maintained and equipped by MGMS and the members of the Society for the purpose of allowing members to participate in classes related to the hobby and to spend time working as individuals on projects. Classes are currently planned in wire wrapping, silver smithing, two different beading projects, earring design, and PMC (Precious Metal Clay) jewelry. Other classes regularly scheduled are cabochon cutting, mineral identification, and exhibiting. Others can also be arranged as requested.
The school is also a gathering place for individuals who have similar interests. For example, current interest groups that meet at the workshop include fossils, minerals, and beading. Rooms are also available for groups of members to meet and discuss their special interests and share their information.
Housed within the school is the MGMS Library containing an extensive collection of books and magazines about gems, minerals, fossils, lapidary, and jewelry. Whether you want to identify a rock or fossil you have found or learn how the object developed, you should make the MGMS Library part of your future.
The Society has recently purchased a lot and is now making preparations to erect their own Lapidary School for private use by active members. Planned with an auditorium/library, storage, four class rooms, kitchen, office, the facility will be totally disability accessible. The auditorium can also double as two class rooms for additional teaching possibilities.
Continue to monitor this page for more about the newest addition to the Society and for information concerning classes being offered. Members should also check the latest edition of Rocky Echoes for complete information on all Rock School activities.
